Update on NDRRMC’s relief operations in Batanes

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) response clusters relief mission in Basco, Batanes was succesfully conducted.

The relief airlift on board a PAF C130 left Villamor airbase at 12:30 pm today.

Relief goods consisting of 600 family food packs, 20,000 ready to eat brown rice bars, bottled water, malongs and gensets were safely airlifted and delivered to the province of Batanes for distribution to affected families.

RETT, HEM and RDANA Teams from RDRRMC 2 that came in with the mission were also deployed to provide emergency telecoms, health emergency services and conduct damage and needs assessment.

Provincial Governor Cayco presented the situation updates and immediate needs.

They still need canned goods, ropes for securing their houses and emergency communication.

As of today, Itbayat remains isolated and without communications.

A facsimile of the provincial declaration of state of calamity was furnished to the mission lead.

Cong. Abad who accompanied the relief flight also brought in water purification systems.

It is recommeded that a followthru C295 relief airlift be done tomorrow morning to go to itbayat with family food packs, water and emergency comms and another C130 flight to Basco with additional canned goods, water, NFI, ropes and power gensets.

Cellular communication is intermittent and very weak.

Fuel is still available in Basco, Batanes.
