Military units, tasked to pursue the escaped inmates and raiders of the North Cotabato District Jail in Kidapawan City last Jan. 4, have recaptured 18 of the detainees during two operations Thursday morning.
An estimated 158 inmates were freed in the 12 a.m. raid made by some 100 heavily-armed men.
This was disclosed by Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) public affairs office chief Col. Edgard Arevalo in a briefing at the Del Pilar Lounge in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City.
Around 17 inmates were captured by troopers from the 7th Infantry Battalion in Barangay Bangilan, Kabacan town, North Cotabato around 8:30 a.m.
Arevalo said military units were deployed in the area after reports regarding the presence of escaped prisoners there were forwarded to authorities.
In another incident, another inmate was also recaptured Thursday by Army units in Matalam, North Cotabato.
Arevalo also clarified that pursuit operations is aimed at recapturing the escaped inmates and the suspects responsible for their escape.
Efforts will continue until all of these inmates and raiders are accounted for, he added.
