MANILA It's now official. Rep. Isidro Ungab, of Davao City's 3rd district, has joined the race for the Speakership of the House.
I abide by the decision of our party Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HnP), Ungab said in a press statement issued Wednesday afternoon.
HnP earlier endorsed Ungab to the post in an effort to amicably resolve the impasse among the three pro-administration.
We suggest that Cong. Alan Peter Cayetano take the Majority Leader position, Cong. Lord Alan Velasco take the Appropriations Committee and Cong. Martin Romualdez the Accounts Committee, HnP said in a press statement that came out the previous day.
Hugpong noted that President Rodrigo Duterte, out of delicadeza, will not accept the intent of Congressman Paolo Duterte, to resolve the conflict among candidates. In endorsing Ungab, Hugpong pointed out that the four-term congressman is the only lawmaker to hold the Chairmanships of both Ways and Means and Appropriations Committees.
HnP is ready and open to working with everyone, Ungab declared in his statement.
He expressed hopes that everyone will aim for and work towards unity and cooperation in order to establish a strong and efficient House.
Rest assured that the HnP has a vision of a House that will truly work for and serve the best interest and welfare of the Filipino people, he added.
Ungab said he is deeply honored for the endorsement. I am a good soldier under the command of every Filipino. I am ready, willing and capable to serve in any capacity, he added.
HnP expressed hopes that everyone can see the light in this option and move forward with urgency in serving our country.
I reiterate my commitment to support the Legislative Agenda of President Rodrigo Duterte, ensure further economic growth, lower poverty incidence and to help create more opportunities for all Filipinos, Ungab said. (PR)
