TESDA updates training regulations for better employability

MANILA -- The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) has updated the training regulations (TRs) of at least 20 courses or qualifications, with the goal of providing better employability for its graduates and also to enhance the 21st century skills provided in the courses.

"The 21st century skills are also included in the previous TRs. This time, however, the 21st century skills in our TRs would now include lifelong learning and career skills, learning and innovation, information management and environmental literary, among others," Secretary Isidro LapeAa told the Philippine News Agency (PNA) on Tuesday.

He added that TESDA actually updates the TRs at least every three years, or depending on the changes in international standards or protocols, industry requirements, changes in technology, and also in accordance with the agency's Mutual Recognition Agreements.

"TRs are revised or developed to respond to the demand of the industry and in reference to priority qualifications or occupations," said LapeAa.

The TRs and assessment fees will be ready for implementation as soon as the guidelines for them are released, he said, adding that these should be released a few weeks from now.

Meanwhile, the new TRs are for 20 courses or qualifications on Automotive, Construction, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Tourism.

The TRs for two qualifications, Electric Power Distribution Operation and Maintenance, NC or National Certificate III and NC IV, were developed in partnership with the National Electrification Administration, according to TESDA.

Other qualifications with revised TRs are:

Construction: Masonry NC or National Certificate l, Masonry NC ll, Masonry NC lll, Pipefitting (Metallic) NC ll, Tile Setting NC ll, Scaffolding Works NC ll (Supported Type Scaffold), Carpentry NC ll, and Carpentry NC llI;
