A public school teacher died while 15 others were injured in a road accident involving a bus and passenger jeepney along the national highway in Camalig, Albay on Sunday afternoon.
Maj. Dante Rosal, Camalig town police chief, identified the victim as Lea Paliangayan, 49, of Guinobatan, Albay, and a teacher of the Marcial O. Ranola Memorial School in Guinobatan.
He said the incident happened at around 5:50 p.m. along the Maharlika Highway in Barangay Libod.
"The Raymond Bus was about to overtake another vehicle when it lost control and sideswiped the passenger jeep and crashed (into) a concrete post of a telecommunication (company) and a coconut tree, forcing the bus to overturn," Rosal said.
A police report said one Agrepina Alpapara was pinned inside the bus but was extricated by members of the Bureau of Fire Protection Search and Rescue Unit.
Responders from neighboring towns and city rushed the wounded passengers to the Bicol Regional Training and Teaching Hospital for treatment.
The passenger jeepney carrying eight passengers and driven by Jeason Nual, 38, of Daraga town was bound for this city while the bus also with eight passengers driven by Ranulfo Decano Jr., 41, was bound for Quezon province.
