PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, March 31 (PNA) -- The Joint Task Force Malampaya (JTFM) of the Western Command (WESCOM) in Palawan rescued very early Friday morning three reported missing fishermen in the waters off Linapacan island town.
This fishermen, who were reported missing since March 27, were identified as Andres Ubenza, 47; Ronnie Nacional, 44; and Ryan Reyes, 38 -- all residents of this city.
Presented to the local media shortly before noon, Nacional, who was the boat captain, narrated that on day they went missing, they came from Roxas to sail to Linapacan.
When they reached the municipality, their boat suffered a hole after it was battered by strong winds and waves due to bad weather.
"We were lucky the cellphone we have with us did not get wet, and we're able to call for rescue," said Nacional.
Nacional's call was received by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Palawan District, which it forwarded to the JTFM. A rescue was then ordered for the three.
Nacional said the incident has now taught them a lesson, and that is "never to sail anymore the moment" they "see the weather being uncooperative." (PNA)
