Seventy-two LGUs to take part in ASEAN Landmark Lighting

The official Association of South East Asian Nation(ASEAN)Lantern will be proudly lit and displayed in key areas of the Philippines today as around 72 local government units(LGUs)from Luzon,Visayas and Mindanao will participate in the nationwide simultaneous ASEAN Landmark Lighting Activity at 7 o'clock tonight.

The ASEAN Landmark Lighting Activity is one of the highlights of the 50thASEAN Anniversary which is being hosted by the Philippines.

In Metro Manila, the anniversary will be ushered in by a parade from Luneta Park to the Cultural Center of the Philippines(CCP)in Pasay City at 3:00 PM followed by activities such as air dance,video and poetry reading,singing of the ASEAN Anthem,and performances of various ASEAN Pop artists until 6:55 PM.At exactly 7:00 PM,the official ASEAN lantern will be lit to signify oneness among member countries.

Local landmarks, including government-owned buildings and parks, will be illuminated using the colors red,blue and yellow,the three primary hues of ASEAN member states.

The lighting activity will also be conducted in various ASEAN member countries and will be streamed live as the Philippine Communications Operations Office has coordinated with other member nations for the transmission of their version of the activity.

There will also live coverages to be set up in Bonifacio Global City in Taguig City,Baguio City, Davao City and Cebu City.

The activity is expected to bring in crowds as participating LGUs are encouraged to display the official ASEAN Lantern for the activity which they could hang or place on a platform in a well-lit landmark background.

Most of the 72 LGUs that will take part in the lighting event have either served as venues for previous and present ASEAN meetings and activities,are hosts of ASEAN centers and institutions,or have signified interest to participate in the said activity.

Participant LGUs are from the Cordillera Autonomous Region(2);National Capital Region(17); Region 1 (6);Region 2 (2);Region 3 (6);Region 4-A (10);Region 4-B (2);Region 5 (4);Region 6 (4);Negros Island Region (3);Region 7 (2);Region 8 (5);Region 9 (1);Region 10 (3);Region 11 (2);Region 12 (2);and CARAGA (1).

From Cordillera Administrative Region,joining the lighting activity are Baguio City and Banaue in Ifugao;for the National Capital Region are Caloocan City,Makati City,Malabon City, Mandaluyong City,Manila,Marikina City,Muntinlupa City,Pasay City,Pasig City,Quezon City,San Juan City,Taguig City,Valenzuela City,Las Pinas City,Paranaque City,Navotas City,and Pateros.

Region 1 participants are Province of Ilocos Norte,Laoag City,Dagupan City,Bauang in La Union,Binalonan in Pangasinan,and Paoay in Ilocos Norte;from Region 2 are Province of Isabela and Tuguegarao City;and Region 3's Angeles City,San Fernando City,Science City of Munoz,and the townhs of Baler in Aurora,Iba in Zambales,and Mayantoc in Tarlac.

Also joining the activity are LGUs from region 4A namely Sta. Rosa City,Tagaytay City,Kawit in Cavite,the towns of Mulanay and Padre Burgos in Quezon, the towns of Pillila,Jala-Jala and Tanay in Rizal,Agoncillo in Batangas,and San Andres in Quezon;from Region 4B are Puerto Princesa City and Mogpog in Marinduque;from Region 5 are Legazpi City,Province of Albay, Iriga City and Naga City.

Region 6 LGUs such as Badiangan in Iloilo,Malay in Aklan,Iloilo City and Mina in Iloilo are also taking part in the event together with Negros Island Region's Bacolod City,Dumaguete City, and San Carlos City.

Cebu City and Panglao together with the provincial government of Bohol of Region 7 are also having their version of the lighting activity like the LGUs of Region 8 namely Palo in Leyte, Ormoc City,Tacloban City,Maasin City,and Balangiga in Eastern Samar.

Zamboanga City is the lone participant from Region 9 joined by region 10's,Cagayan de Oro City,Province of Camiguin,and Malaybalay City and Region 11's Davao City,and San Isidro in Davao Oriental.Region 12's Cotabato City,and General Santos City plus CARAGA's Bislig in Surigao del Sur will also join the lighting event.

The Philippines is the Chair of the ASEAN's golden year celebration,which targets to raise the awareness of the public of the importance and benefits of ASEAN.This year's theme is Partnering for Change,Engaging the World.
