MANILA Senator-elect Manuel "Lito" Lapid is the only winning senatorial candidate in the May 2019 polls who has yet to file his Statement of Contributions and Expenditures (SOCE) before the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
Comelec Campaign Finance Office (CFO) records reveal that Lapid has not submitted his SOCE two weeks after the June 13 deadline.
Lapid was in 7th place overall in the senatorial race after receiving 16,965,464 votes. He ran under the Nationalist People's Coalition (NPC).
Under the law, all candidates who filed a Certificate of Candidacy (COC) and all electoral parties shall file a true and correct SOCE within 30 days from Election Day.
Failure to submit of the SOCE, winning candidates are prohibited from assuming office.
But they are allowed to file their SOCE within six months from the date of proclamation.
Late filing of SOCE will also subject the candidate to an administrative penalty amounting to at least PHP10,000.
Winning senatorial bets who have already filed their SOCEs are Cynthia Villar, Grace Poe, Bong Go, Pia Cayetano, Bato dela Rosa, and Sonny Angara.
Senators-elect Imee Marcos, Francis Tolentino, Koko Pimentel, Bong Revilla, and Nancy Binay have also filed their SOCEs.
All newly-elected senators of the Philippines are set to assume office on June 30, Sunday. (PNA)
