Secretary Bello graces 16th National PESO Congress, administers oath to newly-elected PESOMAP officers

Labor and Employment Secretary Silvestre H. Bello III, at the 16th National Public Employment Service Office (PESO) Congress, administered the oath to newly-elected officers of the PESO Managers Association of the Philippines (PESOMAP) and called on all PESO managers and personnel to be agents of change under the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte.

"My dear PESO managers and officers, let us all be agents of change under the Duterte administration. I urge everyone to do their share in nation-building. Let us render our services to our countrymen, because they look upon us as their hope for better employment," Secretary Bello said to the more than 1,000 National PESO Congress delegates at the Pacific Grand Ballroom of the Waterfront Hotel in Cebu City.

He added that the DOLE and the PESOs have to work hand in hand to provide the economy with an adequate and steady supply of skilled and trained human resources thereby addressing the persistent problems of unemployment and underemployment.

The new PESOMAP officers, who will serve from 2017 to 2019, are as follows: Norman Victor Ordiz (Region 8), President; Alicia Fetalvero (Region 4B), Executive Vice President; Luningning Vergara (Region 3), Vice President for Luzon; Bonifacio Mercado Jr. (Region 7), Vice President for Visayas; Jonix A. Paniagua (Region 12), Vice President for Mindanao; Gloria Excelsa Pamugas (Region 11), Secretary; Divina Lagumbay (Caraga), Treasurer; Imelda Pascual (CAR), Auditor; Sylvia Sumonoong (Region 9), Public Information Officer; Antonio Carreon (Region 1), Lorna Hayag (Region 5), Rani Rodriguez (Region 6), Herculano Ronolo (Region 10), Ariel Mugol (Region 4A), Socorro Suki (NIR), and Alma Martinez (Region 1), Board of Trustees.

In congratulating the newly-elected PESOMAP officers, Secretary Bello said: "I wish you the best as you lead the strong network of PESOs nationwide. You serve as our conduit in implementing the DOLE programs at the local level, in tandem with our regional offices."

This year's National PESO Congress, the first to be held in the Queen City of the South, was held on 13-14 October and anchored on the theme, "Pinagtibay na Bagong PESO: Tulay sa Pag-asenso sa Buhay ng Manggagawang Pilipino.

Also gracing the event were Senator Emmanuel Joel Villanueva, Congressman Randoph Ting, Congressman Michael NuAez, Congressman Jericho Nograles, Cebu Governor Hilario P. Davide III, Cebu City Councilor Sisinio Andales, DOLE Undersecretaries Dominador Say and Joel Maglunsod, DOLE Assistant Secretaries Alex Avila and Joji Aragon, and DOLE Central Visayas Regional Director Exequiel Sarcauga.
