SC suspends work in courts Monday afternoon due to transport strike

MANILA The Supreme Court (SC) announced a suspension of work in all courts effective 2 p.m. Monday due to the nationwide transport strike staged by the Pinagkaisang Samahan ng mga Tsuper at Operator Nationwide (PISTON).

ACJ (Acting Chief Justice Antonio) Carpio orders #EarlyDismissal for all courts nationwide (Supreme Court (SC), Court of Appeals (CA), Court of Tax Appeals (CTA), Sandiganbayan (SB), trial courts starting at 2 p.m. today (Monday), SC spokesperson Theodore Te said in a message sent to reporters.

Carpio, however, instructed frontline offices in the SC, CA, CTA and SB, as well as executive judges of trial courts to maintain a skeletal work force.

Earlier on Monday, some schools have also suspended classes due to the transport strike.

The group is protesting fuel price hikes and the government's move to phase out dilapidated jeepneys.
