Retired general appointed as PhilHealth board member

MANILA President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed retired Army general Ricardo Morales as board member of the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth).

In his appointment paper signed by Duterte on June 25 and released to the media on Thursday, Morales will serve as member of the PhilHealth Board of Directors, representing the indirect contributors.

His appointment comes almost one month after Duterte named him as member of the board of trustees of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS).

Reports earlier claimed that Morales was going to be named PhilHealth president and Chief Executive Officer after Duterte sought the resignation of Roy Ferrer over bogus kidney dialysis treatments.

Aside from Morales, Duterte appointed Amable Aguiluz V as Special Envoy of the President to the Gulf Cooperation Council from July 1, 2019 to June 2020.

Duterte also appointed Lourdines dela Cruz as Deputy National Statistician at the Philippine Statistics Authority; Allan Iral as jail director of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology; and Jon Castro as member of the board of directors of the Clark Development Corp. to serve until June 30.
