BAGUIO CITY, March 31 (PNA) -- City administrator Carlos Canilao on Friday said traditional religious activities will highlight the observance of the 2017 Summer Vacation (SUMVAC) this April in Baguio City which include the Holy Week services in various churches, assemblies, conferences and Lenten presentations.
The Stations of the Cross is scheduled on April 7 at the Our Lady of Atonement Church (Baguio Cathedral) starting at 4:00 p.m.
Blessing of Palms is scheduled at the Baguio Cathedral Square from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on April 8; and from 5:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on April 9.
The Holy Week services are scheduled in the different churches in Baguio City from April 10 to 16 and would be capped by the staging of the 5:00 a.m. inter-faith Easter Sunrise worship rites on Easter Sunday, April 16, at the Malcolm Square.
United Methodist Church Bishop Rudy Juan will be the guest speaker during the program to be highlighted by prayers of reflections, thanksgiving, intercession and worship.
The Alpha-Omega Theatrical Production will present a Senakulo, a Lenten play that depicts events from the Old and New Testaments related to the life, sufferings, and death of Jesus Christ.
The play will be staged at the Melvin Jones Grandstand, Burnham Park for three nights starting on April 9 at 6:00 p.m. featuring a cast of 250 actors.
The Jesus Miracle Crusade Inc. will hold its gathering on April 13-16 followed by the Iglesia ng Dios kay Kristo Thanksgiving on April 20 at 9:00 a.m.
The Jehovah's Witnesses Annual Circuit Assemblies on April 22 and 23 would be held at 7:00 a.m.
The 2nd North Luzon Kids for Christ Family Conference on April 28 is scheduled 8:00 a.m. at the Baguio Convention Center (BCC)
Non-religious activities include two historical events -- the Araw ng Kagitingan (Day of Valor) on April 9 and the Liberation Day on April 27 with special commemoration programs at the Veterans Park.
The Spiritual Journey Art Exhibit by Joel Cristobal and Celso Pepito will be mounted at the Camp John Hay at 11:00 a.m. on April 8.
Alab ng Puso, a fun run for the benefit of one-year-old Alab Caringal, the country's first survivor of a rare blood disorder, would be held 4:00 a.m. on April 2 at the Baguio Athletic Bowl.
Other events are Healthy Living Orientation and Concert at the BCC at 9:00 a.m on April 11; the 5:00 a.m. Foamy Fun Run at the Baguio Athletic Bowl on April 23; and the Saint Andrew's Theological Seminary Chorale Concert at the Cathedral of the Resurrection, Magsaysay Avenue at 6:00 p.m. on April 28.
