The Police Regional Office9 (PRO9) has awarded medals to two officers and three personnel in recognition of their valuable service to the community amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid19) pandemic.
The awarding of medals was held Monday during the kickoff program of the 25th Police Community Relations (PCR) Month celebration at Camp Col. Romeo Abendan here.
The recipients of Medalya ng Papuri (PNP Commendation Medal) are Col. John Guyguyon, Deputy Regional Director for Operations (DRDO), and Staff Sergeants Alsadar Matarul and MerSharif Hadjula, for their exemplary performance and devotion to duty for extending medical, financial and transportation assistance to a sick child from Sindangan, Zamboanga del Norte who was successfully treated at Zamboanga Peninsula Medical Center in this city during the implementation of the Enhanced Community Quarantine.
Both Matarul and Hadjula are from the Sindangan Municipal Police Station.
Lt. Col. Restituto Pangusban, chief of the 1st Provincial Mobile Force Company in Zamboanga Sibugay, and one of his personnel, Staff Sergeant Idzhar Tanjing, were awarded “Medalya ng Papuri” for their “exemplary performance and devotion to duty”.
According to PRO13, the two officers showed commendable traits by distributing 235 sacks of rice to around 1,175 families in a fishing village whose livelihood was greatly affected by the Covid19 crisis.
Brig. Gen. Jesus Cambay Jr., PRO9 director, said that several activities have been lined up for this year’s observances of PCR Month, such as online Got Talent competition, on the spot poster making contest, and giftgiving activity.
Cambay said the celebration of the PCR Month is pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 764 declaring July of every year as PCR Month, with the National Police Commission (Napolcom) as the lead agency and the Philippine National Police (PNP) as the implementing agency.
He said the PCR month celebration was an “opportune time to strengthen community participation in crime prevention”.
The observance, he said, also serves as a vehicle in forging stronger partnerships and community support in peacekeeping and public safety programs of the PNP.
This year’s PCR month celebration is anchored on the theme “Pinaigting na Ugnayan ng Mamamayan at Pulisya Laban sa Covid19 Pandemya”.
