MANILA Two police officers from the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) in Western Visayas were bestowed with the "Medalya ng Kadakilaan" on Monday for saving the lives of fellow passengers in a sea mishap at the Iloilo-Guimaras Strait early last month.
After Monday's flag ceremony, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief, Gen. Oscar Albayalde personally conferred the Medalya ng Kadakilaan to Chief M/Sgt. Jonathan Magan of San Lorenzo Municipal Police Station of Guimaras Police Provincial Office and S/Sgt. Rodito Erpella of the Regional Headquarters Support Unit of the PRO-6.
Albayalde said the two showed "heroic acts of conspicuous courage and commitment to the service" for saving lives of passengers onboard one of the boats that capsized off Iloilo-Guimaras Strait, despite being victims themselves during the sea mishap.
Albayalde said the heroism shown by the two cops should be emulated by others in the police service.
On August 3, three boats MV Chi-Chi, MB Keziah, and MB Jenny Vince capsized off Iloilo Strait due to bad weather. Dozens of passengers were killed in the sea mishap. (PNA)
