PNA webcast anchor is Consumers’ Choice ‘Outstanding Achiever’

MANILA Broadcast journalist William Frederick Thio, anchor of the Philippine News Agency's webcast PNA Newsroom, was recognized by the National Consumers' Choice Annual Awards (NCCAA) as Outstanding Professional Achiever in the field of News and Public Service Broadcasting last Saturday at the Diamond Hotel in Manila.

Thio started his career as a field reporter and through hard work and constant desire to improve, further developed his skills until landing a position as anchor for Why News on UNTV and host for a television documentary Spotlight.

In 2015, Thio received the Gawad Amerika Award for the Most Promising News Anchor and the World Class Filipino Award in 2017.

Thio currently hosts the longest-running public service television program Damayan Ngayon on Peoples Television (PTV4) and alternates as a news anchor on PNA Newsroom, which airs daily on the state news agency's website.

The NCCAA chose Thio for his "never-ending pursuit of knowledge as a means of self-improvement, which, in turn, translates to improving the lives of others, which is what public service is all about" based on the certificate awarded him.In his acceptance speech, Thio said he is guided by the saying, Ang mabuting gawain ay hindi magbubunga ng masama. (Good deeds do not result in a bad outcome.)"

The NCCAA also bestowed the Outstanding Achievers award to Aidee Tejano for the real estate marketing industry, Mita Sison Duque for the hotel services industry, Cromwell Bonghanoy for the adventure franchising industry, Celine Pialago of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority for public service; Dr. Chanita Villegas and Aissa ArmeAa for the beauty and wellness industry, Mary Ann Montealto for the hair and make-up providing industry, Angelita Cruz for the travel and tours industry, and Rebecca Topacia of the foodcart franchising industry.

In the entertainment industry, the NCCAA recognized Rhed Bustamante as Most Promising Child Star; Selena Marie Cabusas, the Ukelele Girl, as Most Promising Performing Artist (Singing); AC Bonifacio as Outstanding Achiever in the Performing Arts (Singing and Dancing); Gidget Dela Llana as Outstanding Achiever in the Performing Arts (Singing); and Antonio Dumlao as Outstanding Achiever for Events Voice-over, Announcing, and Hosting Industry.Other Outstanding Achievers include; Crisolita Rebusi Navarro for the Aviation School Industry; Jobert Cautivar for the Beauty and Wellness Industry; Nenita Calayag for the Beauty and Wellness Industry; Bevelyn Baclao for the Pest Control Industry; Engr. Edgar Loza and Engr. Janet Loza for the Construction Services Industry; and Fernan Ari Anquillo and Ernalyn Soriano for Entrepreneurship.The NCCAA is a private organization dedicated to the quest for individuals who inspire and embody quality and excellence in various fields of endeavor, including business, arts, and entertainment.
