PHL to face Kyrgyzstan in World Juniors Tennis Championship

MANILA-- The Philippines is scheduled to meet Kyrgyzstan at the start of the World Juniors Tennis Championship Asia/Oceania Pre-Qualifying event in New Delhi, India this week.

Amanda Gabrielle Zoleta, Alexandra Eala and Maria Carmencita Carlos are carrying the national colors while Kyrgyzstan is represented by Vladislava Andreeus, Banat Madalieva and Aigerim Akzhol in the Under-14 tournament to be held at the R.K. Khanna National Tennis Center.

The Philippines is in Group A together with Iraq and Kyrgyzstan while Jordan, Lebanon, Nepal, and Singapore are in Group B after the drawing of lots. Teams in each group will play in a round-robin format with the top two from each group advancing to the play-off event to decide the rankings of the teams. The remaining three teams will play in another round-robin format to determine the fifth to seventh placers.

The two best performing teams will join Australia and New Zealand in the Final Qualifying zone competition to be held from March 20 to April 1 in Bangkok, Thailand.

The Final Qualifying event will select the teams that will advance to the World Group Finals, which will take place in Prostejov, Czech Republic. (PNA)
