MANILA -- President Eduardo Duterte has signed a proclamation designating August of every year as Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) month.
Under the Philippines' chairmanship, ASEAN is celebrating its 50th founding anniversary this year.
Duterte signed Proclamation No. 282, which states that the Philippines recognizes the need to further promote and heighten awareness of the ASEAN among Filipinos.
The two-page proclamation was signed by Duterte last July 31. It also bore the signature of Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea.
Under the order, Duterte called on all government agencies, especially the departments of foreign affairs, education, tourism, local government, trade and industry and the Commission on Higher Education to initiate and implement programs and activities to widen public support for the observance of ASEAN month.
Civil Service Commission memorandum circular No. 07 calls on public officials and employees to actively take part in raising public awareness of the ASEAN, the proclamation added.
