MANILA, Philippines -- Philippine police said on Tuesday that they fatally shot at least 21 drug suspects in simultaneous province-wide anti-illegal drug operations in Bulacan province, north of Manila, China's Xinhua news agency reported.
Senior Superintendent Romeo Caramat, provincial police director, said 64 others were arrested for the conduct of 24 operations and implementation of two search warrants from Monday night to Tuesday morning.
He said the anti-narcotic operation will continue till Tuesday night.
These drug suspects were killed in an armed encounter with the police who were conducting the operations, said Caramat, adding that a total of 21 firearms and more than 100 grams of shabu are confiscated during separate raids.
Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte takes a hardline stance against drug-related crimes after he took office in last June.
Website of Philippine National Police reveals that from July 1, 2016 to June 26, 2017, a total of 96,703 drug suspects have been arrested and 3,451 other have been killed.
