MANILA-- Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Martin Andanar on Friday urged the media to help scale up the people's level of awareness and understanding of the essence of the ASEAN.
In a press briefing for the 30th ASEAN Summit and its activities held at the Conrad Hotel in Pasay City, Andanar acknowledged the challenge to increase the level of the people's awareness of the ASEAN.
Based on surveys, while 81 percent of ASEAN citizens have heard of the regional grouping, only 24 percent have a basic understanding of what it is and its purpose in promoting positive change.
The PCOO has been conducting a series of caravans/roadshows to educate the people on the relevance of the ASEAN. It has also been delivering timely and relevant news about ASEAN activities.
The Philippines' chairmanship of the ASEAN during the regional bloc's 50th anniversary is anchored on the theme, "Partnering for Change, Engaging the World".
The summit is expected to promote stronger unity, cooperation and mutual prosperity of the 10 member states and their people through the creation of outcome documents and partnership that promote inclusive growth.
