Sea transport from Iloilo bound for Negros Occidental and Mindanao was cancelled effective Sunday following the hoisting of Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal (TCWS) in these places due to tropical depression 'Auring'.

Lt. Commander Ramil Palabrica of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Iloilo, in an interview over a local radio station here, said that Memorandum Circular Number 03, series of 2013 mandates that no sea vessel of any type of tonnage shall be allowed to sail, except to take shelter, when TCWS No. 1 or higher is hoisted within its point of origin, the intended route and point of destination.

Trips to Negros Occidental via Estancia, Dumangas and Lapuz ports were affected by the cancellation. Palabrica said that coordination with shipping agencies has been done on how they could extend assistance to affected passengers.

Negros provinces have been placed under TCWS No. 1 by the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Astronomical Service Administration (PAGASA).

Meantime, trips to Guimaras from Iloilo continue, he said.

'Auring' is expected to make landfall over Surigao del Sur between Sunday and Monday evening, according to PAGASA.
