Pascua tries to bounce back in Kolkata tennis tourney

MANILA: Joewyn Rey Pascua will try his luck anew in the third leg of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Juniors Championships which will start Monday at the Bengal Tennis Association stadium in Kolkata, India.

Pascua lost his first-round match to top seed Adhithya Ganesan of the United States, 1-6, 6-3, 3-6, in the second leg held in New Delhi on Jan. 10.

He managed to reach the quarterfinal round of the first leg in Chandigarh two weeks ago, but was overpowered by Ke Hau Hung of Chinese Taipei, 4-6, 2-6.

After Kolkata, Pascua will proceed to Indore for the fourth leg slated Jan. 23 to 28.

Pascua capped his 2022 international campaign with a doubles victory in Vietnam, teaming up with local Pham La Hoang Anh in a category 4 event held in Ho Chi Minh.

They beat Ching Chang Chiu and Xiao-Feng Zhou of Chinese Taipei, 7-6 (5), 4-6, 10-8, for the title.

Pascua is being trained by former Philippine Davis Cup team member Jun Toledo, who serves as head coach of the Philippine Tennis Academy in Alabang, Muntnlupa City
