MANILA-- Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Leonor Briones said it will cost around PHP800 million to rebuild 15 schools in Marawi City, which is affected by the clash between government troops and Maute terror group.
During the 1 With the 99 Tax Reform Forum Wednesday, Briones said these 15 schools were bombed, burned, and looted.
She added that funding requirement could reach up to PHP2.3 billion if the government will be rebuilding all 132 schools in Marawi.
She mentioned about 16,472 Marawi children have evacuated to various regions of the country, who are also in need of bags and school supplies.
Since the incident in Marawi is still ongoing, the affected students need temporary learning spaces, furniture and fixtures, books, and laboratory equipment.
The DepEd chief stressed that the crisis in Marawi has affected public resources including education.
