P1-K note with misspelled Duterte name not legal tender: BSP

The PHP1,000 note with a misspelled name of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, which is spelled as Rodrigo Boa Duterte in the photo circulating online, is fake, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) said.

In a statement Wednesday, the central bank said it has verified that the banknote “featured in a story in a website is not legal tender”.

“The serial number shown in the said banknote does not match any of the ones issued by the BSP for the 1000-Piso Enhanced New Generation Currency banknote,” it said.

The statement added that the central bank “will continue to work with its stakeholders, including the media, in disseminating the correct information on the Philippine currency and in protecting the integrity of banknotes and coins”.

Among the online sites where the photo of the fake PHP1,000 bill came out is Esquiremag.ph.

The website, which is the online platform of Esquire Philippines, came out with the story about the PHP1,000 with the misspelled name of the President on Sept. 28, 2020.
