MANILA The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Thursday advised Filipino voters overseas who would like to participate in the May 2020 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) to transfer their registration to the local registry.
The poll body said they have until September 30 to file their change of voter registry.
Comelec Resolution 10589 has effected the transfer from the overseas voter registry to the local voter registry starting August 1 to September 30, 2019.
"For purposes of the May 11, 2020 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections, the period to file application for transfer from Post to Philippine city/municipality is from August 1 to September 30, 2019," it said.
The resolution was issued after the poll body received requests from overseas voters who are looking to join next year's elections.
"There are overseas voters, who are requesting to transfer their registration from Post to local registry for purposes of participating in the forthcoming Barangay and SK Elections," the Comelec said.
Those who would like to transfer their registry should file an application for transfer (OVF No. 1-B) before the Office for Overseas Voting (OFOV) or the Office of the Election Officer (OEO).
It noted that applications for transfer will be approved as long as the person's registration is included in the National Registry of Overseas Voters (NROV).
The application will be denied if the applicant's name is not on the NROV; is filed beyond the set period, and is not filed under oath by the applicant.
Meanwhile, Filipinos with deactivated overseas registration for failure to participate in two consecutive elections will be allowed to file their applications for registration locally in accordance with existing rules on local registration.
Earlier, the Comelec said it is looking to start the registration for overseas voters in December for the May 2022 national and local elections. (PNA)
