MANILA A senior high school student from Nueva Ecija emerged as the Grand Prize winner of the Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency (PNVSCA)'s 2nd Volunteerism Photo Contest, which was themed 'Boluntarismo: Daan Tungo sa Pagbabago!'
Anjo R. Ortega, a student of Cesar E. Vargara Memorial High School, bested 32 other participants with his entry Planting the Future Together. He will receive cash prize worth PHP30,000.
Meanwhile, Andres P. Bonifacio, a public school teacher from Malabon City, bagged the Audience Choice's Award for having the most number of Facebook likes. His entry, Pinagbigkis ng Bagong Umaga received 7,300 likes. He will receive cash prize worth PHP5,000.
Entries were judged according to relevance to the theme, aesthetics, originality and overall impact.
The winners were selected by the Board of Judges composed of Mr. Julian Tongson, former US Peace Corps Program Officer; Prof. Carlito Amalla of the UP College of Fine Arts and former National Awardee of PNVSCA's Search for Outstanding Volunteers; Mr. Pablo Beltran of the Federation of Philippine Photographers Foundation, Incorporated; Ms. Annabelle Jimenez, winner of PNVSCA's #Volunteerism4Devp Photo Contest 2015; and Mr. Noell El Farol of the De La Salle College of Saint Benilde's School of Design and Arts.
According to the Board of Judges, Planting the Future Together, aside from its unparalleled aesthetics and relevance to the theme, stood out from the roster of entries because of its ecological component, which caters to the country's present problem on environment. Sign of Love, on the other hand, was chosen because of its candidness and attractiveness.
The 2nd Volunteerism Photo Contest is a major activity of the PNVSCA, an attached agency of the National Economic and Development Authority, in observance of the National Volunteer Month this December. (PR)
