MANILA No Filipino was among those reported dead and wounded in a suspected terror attack in Belgium on Tuesday, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said.
In his report to DFA Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano, Ambassador Eduardo Jose de Vega said two police officers and a bystander were killed in the incident that also left two other police officers wounded.
The attack took place in LiAge, about 100 kilometers south of the Belgian capital.
The envoy said a man carrying a knife attacked two female police officers from behind, took their guns and fired at a young man in his car. The suspect then took a woman hostage before he was shot and killed by responding police officers.
At present, there is an estimated 8,000 Filipinos in Belgium, including about 100 in Liege, and none of them were affected by the shooting incident.
Cayetano has expressed his condolences to the Belgian government and the families of the victim. (PNA)
