No fare hike in Zamboanga City: LTFRB-9

There will be no PHP1 increase in fare here, a Land Transportation Franchising Regulatory Board-9 (LTFRB-9) official said Tuesday.

Lawyer Jason Tan, LTFRB-9 hearing officer, said local transport groups failed to file a corresponding petition seeking fare hike.

“They need to file a petition with our office before we can give an increase in fare rate. As of now, nobody filed a petition,” Tan said in a statement.

Tan said not a single fare increase petition has been filed in other parts of Zamboanga Peninsula despite the continuous increase in fuel prices.

A public hearing will be held once they receive a fare hike petition from the local transport sector, he added.

“We will invite all concerned stakeholders like the students, businessmen, wage board, NEDA (National Economic Development Authority), and ordinary residents in the barangay to hear their comment in the petition,” he said.

Tan said the main factor to be considered is the effect on the commuters.

The Federation of Land Transportation Association in Zamboanga cannot be reached for comment.

The last time the LTFRB approved the fare hike was in 2018.
