The province of Negros Oriental has recorded its latest coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) mortality, bringing the total number of deaths to five.
Assistant Provincial Health Officer Dr. Liland Estacion, at a press briefing late Monday afternoon, identified the latest Covid-19 death, a 56-year-old female locally stranded individual (LSI) from the municipality of La Libertad, as patient NegOr CoV 169.
She arrived in Negros Oriental from Metro Manila and had pre-existing medical conditions at the time she tested positive of the coronavirus, Estacion said.
The cause of her mortality was community-acquired pneumonia secondary to a brain tumor and died during the weekend, she added.
Estacion also reported that the province has three new Covid-19 cases, following the return of throat swab test results from Cebu City over the weekend.
The new cases are a 34-year-old male LSI who returned from Makati City and a 27-year-old male from Las Piñas, Metro Manila, both from Mabinay town; and a 29-year-old-male from La Libertad who arrived in the province from Olongapo City.
As of Sept. 28, Estacion said the province has logged a total of 183 Covid-19 cases with 146 recoveries, 32 active cases, and five deaths.
