NDRRMC alerts units for ‘Auring’, annual ‘Traslacion’

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Managaement Council (NDRRMC) on Sunday said it is continuously monitoring situations related to the expected onslaught of tropical Depression "Auring" and the annual procession of the Black Nazarene or "Traslacion" this coming Monday.

In the same vein, NDRRMC executive director Ricardo Jalad said their operations center in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City has been placed in "blue alert" in view of the arrival of 'Auring'.

Along with this, the NDRRMC's response cluster is already activated for any eventualities that might be caused by the weather disturbance.

Jalad also said that the National Council has already activated the Regional Incident Management Team in the National Capital Region to monitor developments related to the "Traslacion".

In its 11 a.m. weather bulletin, PAGASA said "Auring" was located at 75 km east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur, with maximum winds of up to 55 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 70 kph.

The tropical depression is slow moving in a west northwest direction at 7 kph.

Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal (TCWS) #1 is hoisted over the provinces of Bohol, Siquijor, Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental, Southern Leyte, Cebu, Guimaras, Southern part of Iloilo, Southern part of Antique, Agusan Del Sur, Agusan Del Norte, Surigao Del Sur, Surigao Del Norte including Siargao Island, Dinagat Province, Misamis Oriental, Misamis Occidental, Bukidnon, Camiguin, Davao Del Norte, Northern Davao Oriental, Northern Zamboanga Del Norte, Lanao Del Norte, Northern Lanao Del Sur and Compostela Valley.

"Auring" is expected to make a landfall over Surigao Del Sur between Sunday evening and Monday morning.

PAGASA advised residents from areas under TCWS No. 1and the rest of Eastern and Central Visayas to be alert for possible flash floods and landslides. The estimated rainfall amount is from moderate to heavy within 300 km diameter of the tropical depression.

Fishermen and those with small boats are also advised not to venture out over the eastern seaboards of Visayas and of Mindanao.

'Auring' is forecast to be at 45 km west northwest of Butuan City, Agusan del Norte on Monday, at 130 km south of Cuyo, Palawan on Tuesday and at 140 km west northwest of Puerto Princesa City, Palawan on Wednesday.

It is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Thursday.
