MANILA Heavy rains brought about by the southwest monsoon that was enhanced by Tropical Storm Karding have so far affected 187,744 families, or 828,462 persons, residing in 680 barangays in the Ilocos, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Cordillera, and the National Capital regions, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said in its update Wednesday.
Of the figure, 32,121 families, or 102,211 persons, were being aided in 346 evacuation centers while 18,763 families, or 79,567 individuals, were receiving aid outside evacuation centers.
The council also reported that 409 houses were damaged, 130 totally and 279 partially, in Central Luzon, Calabarzon and Cordillera.
The number of flooded areas was placed at 656 in Ilocos, Calabarzon, and the National Capital Region, 133 of which, including all locations in Metro Manila, have already subsided.
Meanwhile, a total of PHP27,861,996.38 worth of relief assistance has been extended by the Department of Social Welfare and Development and local government units to affected families in Ilocos, Central Luzon, Calabarzon and Cordillera. (PNA)
