Militant leader involved in abduction of foreigners killed in S. Philippines

MANILA, March 13 (Xinhua) -- A bandit leader allegedly responsible for the kidnapping of two foreigners and other Filipinos was killed Sunday in southern Philippine province of Zamboanga Sibugay.

Major Filemon Tan, spokesman of the military's Western Mindanao Command, said that Waning Abdusalam was killed when he resisted arrest by the joint police and military personnel in Singkilon village in Naga town at around 8:00 a.m. local time.

According to Tan, Abdusalam was involved in the abduction of Irish missionary Father Michael Sinnott in 2009, Australian Warren Rodwell in 2011, and other locals, including three teachers, in 2009.
