Media executive slain by gunman in southern Philippines (dpa German Press Agency)

Manila (dpa) – A media executive in the southern Philippines died
Wednesday after being attacked by an unidentified gunman, officials
said.

Gregorio Ybanez, president of the Davao Del Norte Press and Radio-TV
Club, was gunned down late Tuesday in Tagum City, about 950
kilometres south of Manila, his office said.

Ybanez was declared dead Wednesday morning while undergoing treatment
in hospital, according to his deputy Boy Conejos.

He said the shooter was riding in a car and fled after the attack.

In July, an assistant cameraman for a local television network was
gunned down in Cavite province, just outside the capital.

Ybanez was the fourth media professional killed in the country this
year, and the 28th since President Benigno Aquino III took office in
2010, according to the National Union of Journalists of the
Philippines.
