Mayor to Filipinos: Give President Duterte chance to finish plans for PHL

BACOLOD CITY-- Mayor Evelio Leonardia here said Filipinos should give President Rodrigo Duterte a chance to finish his plans for the country.

Leonardia's statement came out Monday after the two-day caravan and rally held in this city over the weekend to show support for President Duterte.

"I think it is clear that the President has the mandate and that he will stay for six years," said the mayor as he expressed his full support to the Duterte administration.

Leonardia, who became a member of the ruling Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) last October, attended the pro-Duterte caravans on Saturday and Sunday, and also hosted the unity rally that followed Sunday afternoon at the Bacolod Government Center.

Top officials in Negros Occidental, including Governor Alfredo MaraAon Jr. and Leonardia, spoke before around 2,000 people during the rally.

They were joined by Undersecretary Jesus Hinlo Jr. of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), who is also a Negrense.

Also present were Bacolod City Lone District Rep. Greg Gasataya and Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran, and Board Member Annabelle Bermudo of the Liga ang mga Barangay.

They were joined by Mayors Nicholas Yulo of Bago City, Isidro Zayco of Kabankalan City, Alfredo MaraAon III of Sagay City, Francis Frederick Palanca of Victorias City, Agustin Ernesto Bascon of Himamaylan City, Oscar Montilla Jr. of Sipalay City, Emmanuel Aranda of Binalbagan, Marvin Malacon of E.B. Magalona;

Jose Nadie Arceo of Hinigaran, Rhumyla Mangilimutan of La Castellana, Lourdes Escalante of Manapla, Magdaleno PeAa of Moises Padilla, Jose Benito Alonso of Pontevedra, Vice Mayor Gerany Suatengco of Pulupandan, Marxlen de la Cruz of Don Salvador Benedicto, Jilson Tubillara of San Enrique, Richard Jaojoco of Toboso, and Enrique Miravalles of Valladolid.

The rally was organized by the Mayor Rodrigo Roa Duterte-National Executive Coordinating Council-Negros Island Region (MRRD-NECC-NIR) which was represented by regional chairman Jude Doctora and regional vice chairman Jessie Clavecillas.

Governor MaraAon is also the adviser of MRRD-NECC-NIR.

Sugar industry leaders also came to show support, including Enrique Rojas of the National Federation of Sugar Planters, Manuel Lamata of United Sugar Producers Federation of the Philippines Inc., and Francis de la Rama of Confederation of Sugar Producers Association Inc. (PNA)
