MANILA, Philippines – Over 500 footballers will pit skills on the white sand when they take part in the Masbate Beach Football Festival April 16-17 at Balud Beach in Masbate.
Teams from La Salle, Santo Tomas, Far Eastern U and other collegiate squads and clubs from provinces like football hotbed Barotac and Boracay will lead an expected 700 clubs in the event organized by the Football Association of Masbate.
“We’re expecting 527 participants from 700 clubs all over the country for the festival, which we’re organizing to help promote beach football on the grassroots,” said organizer Junjun Abelita.
Eight sandcourts will be set up along Balud Beach, a 22-kilometer stretch of virgin white sand that provides a picturesque background for the intense action.
“Our unexplored beach is comparable with the best of the world and we also want the participants to enjoy its beauty during the festival,” said Abelita.
On tap are competitions in the open men’s and women’s and age groups U-13 and U-10.
