MANILA Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco on Thursday lauded the enactment of a measure that will convert the Marinduque State College in the Municipality of Boac into a state university, which shall be known as the Marinduque State University.
Velasco said House Bill No. 8729 has finally been signed into law by President Rodrigo R. Duterte on June 26.
Velasco, one of the aspirants for the Speakership in the 18th Congress, had long sought the improvement of the educational standards in Marinduque.
He said the enactment of the Marinduque State Universityhood bill into law is the fulfillment of his vision for his province.
With the passage of this bill into law, the newest University in the country would be capable of delivering new personnel in the school, particularly in terms of its faculty, which should redound to the benefit of its students, he said.
Moreover, the conversion of the academic institution into a University would provide new facilities that would definitely improve the academic environment and would foster growth to the minds of the students, Velasco said.
Velasco also thanked the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) chairman Prospero E. de Vera III, as well as his counterpart legislators in the Senate Senators Sherwin Gatchalian and Sonny Angara for sponsoring his bill in the Chamber. (PNA)
