PO1 Gerardo Salustino sustained a gunshot wound on his left shoulder while the still unidentified suspect, who shot him, was neutralized Wednesday midnight at a checkpoint along Block 1 Gasangan, Baseco Compound, Port Area.

Barangay officials of Barangay 694, Zone 68, Baseco Compound were also at the checkpoint.

The suspect, believed to be between 30-35 years old, 5'9" in height, wearing white t-shirt, floral sort pants, black bull cap, black body bag and green slippers was shot dead by elements of the Baseco Police Community Precinct conducting the checkpoint.

During the said joint checkpoint operation, the suspect on board a black motorcycle was flagged down by the police but instead of submitting himself for verification, the suspect fled, prompting the police officers to chase him.

The suspect, who was later cornered, drew a firearm and shot towards the police officers prompting them to retaliate.

Salustino got wounded in the brief exchange of gunfire and was taken to Ospital ng Maynila for medical treatment.

The recovered pieces of evidence include a .38 caliber revolver with live and spent ammunition; one body bag containing PHP150 in cash and a plastic case containing three small heat sealed plastic sachets of suspected shabu. (PNA)
