Malaysia Grab Three Gold Medals On Last Day Of Philippines Meet

KUALA LUMPUR, April 9 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian athletics squad won three gold medals on the last day of the Philippines Open Invitation Athletics Championship at the Philsports Track and Field Arena in Pasig City, Philippines, Saturday.

According to the Philippines Athletics Association website www.philathletics.org) the first gold was contributed by Shahidatun Nasia Mohamad Zuki in the women's triple jump with a jump of 13.8 metres which was also her personal best.

Another national athlete, R. Kirthana won the silver medal with a jump of 12.77 metres.

For the record, Shahidatun Nadia and Kirthana also won the silver and the bronze medals, respectively, in the long jump on the second day of the championship yesterday.

National elite athlete, Lee Hup Wei won the second gold medal after emerging the champion in the high jump with 2.22 metres but it was a far cry from his best jump of 2.27 metres at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

The third gold medal was contributed by Khairul Hafiz Jantan in the men's 200m with a time of 21.14 seconds while the silver medal went to another national athlete, Badrul Hisyam Abdul Manap in 21.37 seconds.

Prior to this, Badrul presented the Malaysian contingent with a gold medal after winning the 100m in 10.39 seconds while Khairul Hafiz garnered the silver medal in 10.41 seconds, yesterday.
