MalacaAang declares work, class suspension in NCR on April 28 for ASEAN summit

MANILA-- In view of the activities related with the Philippine hosting of the 30th ASEAN Summit and Related Meetings, MalacaAang on Friday suspended all work in both government and private offices on April 28 in the whole of Metro Manila.

Classes in both private and public schools in the national capital region are also suspended on the said date.

The suspensions were declared ahead of the ASEAN leaders' meeting set on April 29 at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City.

The declaration was contained in Memorandum Circular No. 18 signed by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea.

Meanwhile, work in government offices in the cities of Manila, Pasay and Makati is suspended on April 27.

Class suspensions on April 27 in the three cities are however left to the discretion of respective schools on April 27.

MC 18 likewise orders the suspension of work in government in Pasay City and in all offices located at the PICC from April 24 to 30.

Furthermore, the Memorandum Circular states that suspension of work in the private sector in places other than the above-mentioned cities is left to the discretion of their respective local government units and/or employers based on their assessment of the scheduled activities from April 24-30 as well as on the security and traffic management plan which shall be implemented on the said dates.

Government agencies involved in the delivery of basic services, including security and safety, health and emergency preparedness, and those directly involved in the conduct of various ASEAN meetings and related activities shall remain open and perform their normal functions.
