FORMER Artistic Director of Ballet Philippines 2 (BP2), Alden Lugnasin is in Davao to direct the Locsin Dance Workshop’s 69th annual recital.
The Locsin Dance Workshop (LDW) festively celebrates Araw Ng Dabaw with its 69th Annual Recital on March 19 & 20, 2016, 7:00 p.m. at the new Locsin-Lanang at Mamay Road, Damosa, Lanang, Davao City.
Lugnasin was here in Davao last August of 2014 to choreograph Bulak: Ika-Limang Galaw, the second to the last episode of Agnes Locsin’s Alay sa Puno Series.
Alden Lugnasin hails from Samar. He joined BP2 in 1991 after joining a workshop under Agnes Locsin who was at the time the artistic director of the newly formed BP2.
Alden later progressed to becoming a member of Ballet Philippines, the country’s premiere dance company.
In no time at all, Alden danced the lead roles in Locsin’s ELIAS and LA REVOLUCION FILIPINA, Redha Benteifour’s LES PETIT MOT D’AMOUR, as well as the other classical ballet works of the company.
Time came when injuries took its toll on the versatile Alden, and he focused on choreography at which he excelled as well.
His celebrated works are Swimming The Ilog Pasig, Swans…Fluttering Disturbances, Flippers, Cucurrucucco, and This Is My Life.
In 2000, Alden became Associate Artistic Director of Ballet Philippines; and in 2010, became Artistic Director of BP2.
Last year, Alden retired and decided to go home to Samar.
He has refused all requests for teaching and choreography from all over the country, except Davao.
He could not refuse the request from Davao’s Agnes Locsin, who was his mentor for both his dancing and choreographic skills.
The Locsin Dance Workshop’s Annual Recital will feature Marius Petipa’s ballet classic PAQUITA, and an original dance-story Mga Diwata Ng Gubat.
In the lead roles are Davao’s finest ballet dancers, namely Monique Uy, Samantha Martin, Jobelle Mahinay, and Therese Tanguanco, along with all the students of the Locsin Dance Workshop.
The Recital will be on March 19 & 20, 2016, 7:00 pm at the new Locsin-Lanang (behind Nikkei Jin Kai International School) at Mamay Road, Damosa, Davao City.
