LPA leaves Antique with one casualty; highway temporarily impassable

SAN JOSE De BUENAVISTA, Antique -- The low pressure area (LPA) that affected the province of Antique Monday caused the death of one person and temporarily rendered a national highway impassable.

Antique Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Broderick Train said that the victim died due to a flash flood that occurred in San Remigio town particularly in the vicinity of the villages of Vilvar and Baladjay.

Before dawn on Tuesday, Train said he received a call from the Municipal DRRM (disaster and risk management) officer of Patnongon town about an acacia tree that was felled and totally blocked the national highway at Igbobon village.

Road clearing operation by the Patnongon and adjacent Bugasong town DRRM personnel was conducted so that by 5:30 this morning, vehicles were again able to ply the road. (PNA)
