MANILA -- Hundreds of environmental advocates participated during the 2016 Earth Hour held at the Quezon City Memorial Circle on Saturday.
The Philippines has been recognized for its huge contribution to the annual switch-off.
Stressing the potential of human power in addressing climate change, hundreds of volunteers waited for their turn to pedal 10 stationary bamboo bicycles attached to generators, which powered an LED map of the Philippines for an hour from 8:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m.
Government representatives, celebrities, environmentalists, students and locals present during the event were encouraged to go beyond the hour by committing to a greener lifestyle.
Here are some highlights of the event.
