Lacson urges voters to end ‘election insanity’

MANILAWith the list of candidates running for national and local positions taking its final shape, Senator Panfilo Lacson on Wednesday called on the electorate to be more circumspect in choosing their leaders in the coming mid-term elections, even citing as a guidepost a passage attributed to a renowned physicist, Albert Eistein.

"On May 13, 2019, let's choose between politics of service and politics of interest. Just remember Einstein's definition of insanity and we can do it properly this time," Lacson said in a post on his Twitter account.

He was referring to a definition of insanity widely attributed to Einstein as "doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results."

While not actually telling voters whom to choose, Lacson's message is an apparent dig on the Filipinos' penchant for electing public officials based on popularity and name-recall rather than on their qualifications and actual performances.

Meanwhile, the filing of COCs ended Wednesday afternoon with 152 senatorial hopefuls and 185 party-list bets formalizing their respective bids for the 2019 mid-term polls.

The campaign period for senators and party-list groups will run from February 12 to May 11, 2019.

On the other hand, the campaign period for members of the House of Representatives and regional, provincial, city, and municipal officials will run from March 30 to May 11, 2019. (PNA)
