The province of La Union once again has zero active cases for coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) as the 30-year-old male patient from this town has already recovered.
In a statement issued on Monday, Mayor Nieri Flores said the male patient was declared free of Covid-19 by authorities at the Ilocos Training Regional and Medical Center on June 21 after undergoing two reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) tests, which both yielded negative results.
“In addition, all 13 residents of the lockdown sitio, who had close contact with the patient as identified by the contact tracing team, also tested negative of the RT-PCR test,” Flores said.
The municipal government of this town has lifted the lockdown of Sitio Bliss Barangay Baraoas Sur, where the male patient resides.
The patient, a seafarer who travelled to Manila, was the second confirmed Covid-19 case in the town, which led to the declaration of lockdown in the sitio on June 13.
Residents of the sitio were advised to undergo strict home quarantine along with other health and safety measures, she said.
In a statement, Governor Francisco Emmanuel Ortega III thanked his province mates for their cooperation in the continuing implementation of the quarantine protocols under modified general community quarantine.
“This is not the time, however, to be complacent and unwary. Time and again, the threat of the virus persists. Our fight against Covid-19 continues,” he said.
As of June 22, La Union has a total of 22 confirmed Covid-19 cases, 18 have recovered and four have died.
