La Salle, Ateneo earn Final Four incentives

De La Salle University subdued University of the East (UE), 25-16, 25-17, 25-11, to clinch the twice to beat advantage in the Final Four of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 78 women’s volleyball tournament on Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

The Lady Spikers extended their winning streak to five and improved their record to 10-2.

“Mas maganda na madaa¬nan namin lahat ng opponent at talunin para mabuild yung confidence pagdating namin sa semifinals,” said La Salle head coach Ramil De Jesus.

Kim Dy topscored for La Salle with 14 points on eight spikes, three blocks and three aces while former Most Valuable Player Ara Galang contributed 12 markers.

May Luna and Kim Tiam¬¬zon, much-like outside hitter replacement of Cyd Demecillo, combined for 12 points.

Demecillo served as libero for a couple of minutes in the third set.

“Last Adamson game, namin ginawa ko siyang libero kasi hindi pa siya medyo fit sa pagiging spiker kaya pinag libero ko muna,” added De Jesus.

UE’s top spiker Shaya Adorador had seven points as the Lady Warriors remained at the bottom of standings without a win in 12 games.

In the second game, defending champion Ateneo de Manila University blasted Adamson University, 25-16, 25-16, 25-18, to join La Salle on top with the same 10-2 mark.

In the men’s division, National University (NU) toppled Far Eastern University, 28-26, 25-18, 25-20 with Madzlan Gam¬pong scoring 17 markers and Francis Philip Saura adding 11 points.

Jude Garcia led the Tama¬raws with 11 and Jeric Gacutan had 10 points.

NU now holds a 9-4 card while FEU fell to 6-5.

Earlier, Adamson defeated UE, 25-19, 25-18, 21-25, 25-17, to improve its card to 9-3.
