Guarde reaches 16-under final at PSC-Philta netfest

Top seed Carlyn Bless Guarde of Sultan Kudarat marched into the girls' 16-under final after beating Gaby Zoleta on Thursday in the Philippine Sports Commission-Philippine Tennis Association (PSC-Philta) Age Group Championships at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.

Guarde, a Grade 10 student at the Isulan National High School, defeated Gaby Zoleta, 6-0, 7-5, to forge a title showdown with second seed Jennifer Pagente in the season-ending tournament of the Philta headed Col. Salvador Andrada.

Pagente reached the championship round after posting a 6-4, 6-3 win over fourth seed Macie Carlos.

Guarde is a gold winner in the singles 17-under and a silver medalist in the team event of the Batang Pinoy National Finals in Davao del Norte early this month.

Meanwhile, Frenchesca Elise Maneja stunned top seed Ellaine Rose Bahonsua, 6-1, 6-2, to advance in the girls 14-under final against Gaby Zoleta, a 6-1, 6-1 winner over Kaye Ann Emana.

Emana made it to the 12-under final following a 6-2, 6-2 upset win over Julia Ignacio. She will be up against second seed Adeline Abadia, who prevailed over Mica Ella Emana, 6-1, 6-2.

In the boys' 18-under division, top seed Janus Ringia blanked fifth seed Jed Labasano, 6-0, 6-0, to forge a semifinal showdown with Matthew Garcia, who won over fourth seed Emmanuel Fuellas, 6-4, 6-1.

The other semifinal match will feature second seed Gabriel Tiamson and third seed Jeremiah Micias III.

Tiamson walked over Dawson Jean Ormoc while Macias III rallied past Vincent Alanis, 1-6, 6-4, 10-7.

Ringia likewise earned a semis berth in the 16-under division after winning over Joseph Gadon, 6-1, 6-1. He will meet fifth seed Joshua Austria, a 6-4, 6-2 winner over Zire Mina.

Third seed Jose Antonio Tria defeated No. 8 Jan Harold Trillanes, 7-5, 6-0, to advance against Jules Lazaro, who won over Loucas Fernandez, 6-2, 6-2.
