Five Killed In South Philippine MILF, Abu Sayyaf Group Clash

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines, March 24 (Bernama) -- At least five were killed, including three militants and two civilians, when Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) clashed Wednesday with the Abu Sayyaf group in a remote village of south Philippine province of Basilan, security officials said on Thursday.

China's Xinhua news agency reported that Felimon Tan Jr, spokesman of Philippine military's Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom), said the MILF encountered the Abu Sayyaf group at the village of Guinanta in Al-Barka town at around 9am local time on Wednesday.

Tan said initial reports showed three members of Abu Sayyaf group were killed during the firefight.

However, the Abu Sayyaf group chanced upon two civilians on their retreat and executed the victims.

The MILF pursued and encountered the same Abu Sayyaf group at about 4pm local time the same day, triggering another firefight.
