FIG official: Not many countries can host competitions at Azerbaijan’s level

Not many countries in the world can host competitions at the level Azerbaijan does, says Nellie Kim, president of the women's artistic gymnastics technical committee at International Federation of Gymnastics (FIG).

Speaking to Trend Feb. 18, Kim said she was happy with preparation for the FIG World Challenge Cup in Artistic Gymnastics, to be held from Feb. 19 through Feb. 21 in Baku.

"I believe Azerbaijan has done even more than expected in terms of preparation," said Kim. "The contest hall is very beautiful, and apparatuses and the warm-up hall are good as well. I haven't had time to familiarize myself with the training room yet, but I am sure that everything is well there too."

"I believe that very good conditions have been created in Baku for qualification tournaments," she added. "There is good grading equipment, video recording and video replay systems, which make it possible to solve contentious issues."

She also praised the development of gymnastics in Azerbaijan.

"Artistic gymnastics develops rapidly, new halls with modern equipment are being opened in Azerbaijan," said Kim.

The FIG World Challenge Cup in Artistic Gymnastics will be held in Baku from Feb. 19 through Feb. 21.

The National Gymnastics Arena in Baku, as well as the relevant services of Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation (AGF) will receive guests from 19 countries coming to Azerbaijan for this major gymnastics event.
