Eton standoff ends peacefully as drunk guard surrenders

MANILA-- The stand-off between Quezon City Police District (QCPD) operatives and a drunk security guard at the Eton Centris ended peacefully as the latter voluntarily surrendered to authorities Wednesday morning.

QCPD public information officer Chief Insp. Titoy Jay Cuden identified the suspect as Herminigildo Reyes, 33, married, an employee of the Grandiose Security and Services Corporation.

The latter surrendered to QCPD police officers led by Chief Supt. Guillermo Lorenzo Guillermo around 8:10 a.m.

The suspect, who was reportedly under the influence of liquor, went amuck and threatened occupants and other people in the complex with his service firearm before barricading himself in one of the rooms.

Initial reports indicated that Reyes was experiencing family troubles at the time of his rampage.

He eventually surrendered to police after members of his family arrived in the Eton Commercial Complex and convinced him to turn himself to authorities.

Reyes was then taken to QCPD Station 10 in Kamias for questioning and investigation.
