MANILA -- The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) on Thursday ordered all police community precincts (PCPs) in the region to ensure that their surroundings are clean and orderly.
This, as NCRPO chief, Maj. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar, conducted a surprise inspection of PCPs in the southern part of Metro Manila on Wednesday.
Eleazar said he inspected 10 PCPs in Pasay, Makati, ParaAaque, Las PiAas, and Taguig and found out that while these police stations are clean on the inside, the outside premises were found to be filthy.
Cleanliness not only inside but (also) outside (is important). There are a lot of cigarette butts, empty water bottles and candy wrappers during my inspection in these PCPs. I told them even if they have old equipment, as long as these are in order, the people will still find it presentable, especially complainants. The comfort rooms should not have any foul smell. It is important to have a good and clean working environment, Eleazar told the Philippine News Agency (PNA) in a phone interview.
I gave them a warning first. I told them to clean up and then I will go back. I talked to their chiefs of police and station commanders regarding the inspection. They should be watchful of the PCPs under their jurisdiction, he stressed.
Eleazar said that he will inspect 187 PCPs metro-wide, stressting that one of his priority programs is the cleanliness of the stations and their surroundings as part of the internal cleansing program of the PNP.
Cleanliness and sanitation in the police stations should be a standard. Police commanders should always make sure that the surroundings are clean, the Metro Manila top cop noted.
In general, I am satisfied but we can do more improvement. The people's trust will be restored if they see clean surroundings of police stations. What I mean here is exaggerated cleanliness, Eleazar said. (PNA)
