MANILA-- "In the name of the tens of thousands of mothers and fathers who regularly seek to secure the DSWD's educational assistance through our Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations or AICS program, we wholeheartedly thank Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte for signing the law on free tuition in state colleges and universities. We are grateful to the president for heeding the appeals of students and their parents on the matter. This is a very positive step forward in our collective efforts as a people to democratize access to education and help ease the financial burdens of so many Filipinos who want to improve the quality of their lives and their chances at a better future by gaining college degrees.
This is the statement of DSWD Sec. Judy M.Taguiwalo on news that PRRD has already signed the free tuition proposal into law last night.
She also congratulated the thousands of students and their parents who have painstakingly and consistently campaigned for the passage of the law.
"We deeply recognize the value of education and with the passage of this law, we hope more Filipinos will become empowered to build better futures for themselves, their families, and this country," she said.
